Independent Bookstore Day at Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, Inc.
Come visit Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, Inc. on Independent Bookstore Day!
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. This year, the date is April 27th. Abraham Lincoln Book Shop will be open regular hours, 10am – 4pm.
Abraham Lincoln Book Shop will be staging Artifact Talks on Independent Bookstore Day. Join us at the shop to see Daniel Weinberg and Bjorn Skaptason share some of our favorite things. Each talk will last about 15 minutes. Our scheduled talks include:
10am – Bjorn talks about Chicago’s Lakeside Classics
12 noon – Bjorn talks about Books Signed By Presidents
2pm – Daniel talks about Lincoln and Presidential Signatures
4pm – Daniel talks about Civil War Photography
Here are some items related to our topics that we have in stock today. Please Join Us on April 27th.
We also have lots of books from our Author’s Voice Programs deeply discounted. This could be your last chance to get some great books in first edition and signed by the author! Stop in during the day’s celebration of all places that are Independent Bookstores.
The ChiLoveBooks Challenge
Yet again, Chicagoland proves itself to be the dream destination for book lovers and readers of all ages! More than two dozen independent bookstores in the greater Chicago area—from Lake Forest to Beverly, and Naperville to the Loop—are collaborating on a third annual #ChiLoveBooks Challenge, which encourages book lovers to indulge in bookstore tourism by visiting 10 or more stores in a single day.
The annual challenge is being held again on Independent Bookstore Day (IBD), which is a one-day national party celebrating indie book stores on the last Saturday in April. Each store creates its own unique events—including guest authors, special kids’ story times, readings, contests, giveaways, and special sales.
To begin their trip, readers can pick up a #ChiLoveBooks passport and their first stamp with an initial purchase of $25 or more from the store of their choice.
Additional bookstore visits throughout the day (no purchase required) enable them to collect an additional stamp at each subsequent bookstore. Visit the web site to learn the great prizes that await you as you get your passport stamped at our participating bookstores.
Independent bookstores are not just stores, they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. They are entire universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.
In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. And they are at your service.
Please join us on April 27!
