Autograph Free Frank, signed “Free A Lincoln MC” as Member of Congress. [Washington, DC]: Circa 1847-1849. 3-3/4 x 7/8 inches.
As a M.O.C., Lincoln had the franking privilege for official correspondence, and this was taken off the upper right-hand corner of an envelope.
Lincoln’s hand reflects his right-leaning signature of this period and clearly shows the common three-step nature of his signatures. Presidential free franks are more common; those from his one term in congress are scarcer.
A clear, finely-written signature.
