Appomattox Captured Money – Surrendered by Robert E. Lee
Money Surrendered by Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse
Hours: Tues - Sat
A Ten Dollar Confederate Note, surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse.
On a small card attached by a small brass ring, bearing an eagle and shield motif, Laurence has initialed, “A B L”. Laurence writes on the verso: “Surrendered at Appomattox Court House Va. — by Gen. R. E. Lee – as part of the funds of the Army of Northern Virginia / A. B. Laurence / Lt. Col. & Chief Q(uarter) M(aster) / U. S. at Appomattox Va”.
Excellent; a unique artifact from the surrender.
