Product Description

Grover Cleveland, Public Papers of Grover Cleveland, Governor of New York.

Stephen Grover Cleveland began his political career as sheriff and then mayor of Buffalo, where his leadership helped to propel him to the governorship, serving as New York’s governor from January 1, 1883 – January 6, 1885. In Albany, he championed the public interest and favored a strong civil service law over patronage.

A rising national figure, Cleveland resigned as governor after winning the presidential election of 1884. He was the first Democrat to be elected president after the Civil War and the only president to return to the White House for a non-consecutive second term.
