James Garfield writes and signs a letter to his friend, Wallace J. Ford.
This letter to Ford, a close friend of and later Congressional secretary to Garfield, is about a horse that Ford had purchased for Garfield, advising him to “keep the horse under training for a while yet. I have engaged his equipage which will be here next Thursday….” Garfield closes with a statement of personal pride: “I was this morning promoted to a Colonelcy.”
