Kennedy, John F. Menu Signed, As Nominee
A Unseen Artifact from the Beginning of “Camelot”
John F. Kennedy signs this menu from the American Airlines “Kennedy Special.” This was just two days after his nomination as the Democratic Presidential Candidate.
This is the menu from the meal served while on board the plane carrying the nominee from the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles back home to Boston. A sumptuous meal fitting a presidential candidate, the passengers were treated to lobster, filet mignon, and other delicacies. The facing side of the menu reminds passengers that American Airlines Beef is selected from top quality government grade prime steers. The Kobe beef of the day, apparently!
The front of the menu bears the inscription and signature. It is titled Menu/Airplane Device/KENNEDY SPECIAL/LOS ANGELES – BOSTON/17 July 1960/American Airlines. It is inscribed “To Joanne/Best Regards/John Kennedy.
An unusual, and perhaps unique, historical artifact at the moment of JFK’s ascent to the presidency.
This signed menu appears in the Lord John Press SIGNATURES book.
Some minor soiling, tape remnants on verso, else very good.
