Robert E. Lee and Mary C. Lee Signed Cartes of Each, Framed Together.
Mr. & Mrs. Lee Signed Photographs
Hours: Tues - Sat
Robert E. Lee and Mary C. Lee each sign cartes; handsomely framed.
Robert E. Lee’s portrait is a vignetted bust in uniform, backmarked by Vannerson & Jones; Mary C. Lee’s portrait a vignetted bust without backmark. Both on bronze-bordered mounts.
Mrs. Lee’s portrait has been skillfully and lightly hand-tinted, doubtless by the couple’s artistically-inclined daughter Mildred. It is known that Mildred retouched cartes for her mother regularly. A hand-tinted photograph was a popular keepsake during this era.
Corner’s clipped, otherwise v.g., Overall 9 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ framed. Scanned through the glass, much clearer in person.
Lee, Robert E. Carte-de-Visite Photograph, signed (“R F. Lee”) on the print beneath the image; together with a Carte-de-Visite Photograph of his wife, Mary Custis Lee, signed (“Mary C Lee.”) on the mount beneath the print.
