Stevens, Walter. A Reporter’s Lincoln, Limited Edition
Memories of Lincoln In a Reporter’s Notebook
Walter Stevens’ A Reporter’ Lincoln, in limited Edition.
Walter Stevens designed his volume of Lincoln reminiscences to replicate an old reporter’s notebook!
Stevens, chief of the Washington bureau of the St. Louis Globe Democrat from 1886 to 1909, interviewed many people who had known Lincoln. As the centennial of Lincoln’s birth approached, the newspaper assembled some of these materials for the series “Recollections of Lincoln”, which appeared in early 1909.
In 1916, about half of the articles appeared in “A Reporter’s Lincoln,” published by the Missouri Historical Society. These little-known accounts contain valuable information on the Lincoln-Douglas debates and interesting testimony on Mary Lincoln and the Lincoln family traditions.
Light chipping of extremities; light soil; light rub; else very good.
Stevens, Walter B. A Reporter’s Lincoln. St. Louis: Missouri Historical Society, 1916. 1st edition, limited to 600 copies, 587/600, 80p., 8vo, quarter leatherette over marbled paper. Intended to replicate a reporter’s notebook, (Monaghan 2275).
