Product Description

Zachary Taylor signs a requisition for “one cord” of fuel for the Ft. Crawford Police Guard.

Taylor has boldly signed as Commander. Marked “Duplicates”, another Captain signs as well.

Taylor had been a career officer in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Major General, before becoming Commander in Chief, when his victories in the Mexican-American War won him the election to the White House.

He became the third shortest-serving president (14 months), behind William Henry Harrison and James Garfield.

Manuscript Document, signed “Z. Taylor / Comdg.” Fort Crawford, Prairie du Chien, WI.: July 1833. Quarto; 1p.; docket on verso.
