Abraham Lincoln Autograph Signature, on the first page of a handsome autograph book.
The unusual aspect of this particular book is that all the pages are blank save the first one with a bold “A. Lincoln” on it. Here at the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, Inc., we believe that’s all that one needs; but usually — in fact in all others we’ve seen – the pages are filled with other signatures: Lincoln’s cabinet, members of the House of Representatives or the U. S. Senate, Union generals, etc.
This artifact was at one time in the state of Idaho. On the inside front flyleaf there is an owner’s stamp, for an “E. Stahl,” who owned an Assay Office in Grangeville, Idaho in the 1890s. His father, Emil Stahl, was the one who presumably had access to Lincoln and obtained this signature.
Album in excellent condition, mostly due to its not having been heavily used. The signature is bold.
Lincoln, Abraham. Autograph Signature on the first page of an autograph book. Dated by the autograph seeker, “A.D. / Sept. 14, 1864.” This is one of the usual autograph books of the day, produced by J. B. Lippincott & Co. of Philadelphia. Full leather with gilt edges, the word “Autographs” in gilt on the front cover and on the spine.
