Abraham Lincoln, Mourning Pin

Mourning Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln Mourning Pin, c1865.

The image is a vignetted Roderick Cole, taken in Peoria, Illinois, probably in 1858. One of the more beautiful such pins we’ve encountered; quite unusual and endearing.

It appears to have been fashioned from a pendant, perhaps half a locket. We often see Victorian jewelry repurposed for mourning pieces.

Excellent, though a very small chip in the  glass.

Lincoln Mourning Pin, circa 1865.  Gold plate with an albumen photo inside, under beveled glass. Surrounding the glass is a twisted, gold metal rope design.  Reverse has a “T” bar pin and open clasp in working order.
