Abraham Lincoln Campaign Envelope, postally used.

The envelope bears an image of Samuel Fassett’s photo taken in Chicago on 4 October 1859. It was widely used on campaign pins as well.  Many people bought envelopes bearing images of their favorite candidate.

The addressed and stamped envelope has a postmark (25 October 1860) from Beardstown, Illinois, where Lincoln was first elected Captain of his Black Hawk War company – a very nice postal association!

1860 Presidential Campaign Envelope.  Chicago:  E. Mendell, 1860.  5-1/8 x 2-13/16 inches.
