Description

Allen Albert, Honorary Secretary The Architectural Commission, wrote this expanded illustrated Official View Book of Chicago’s 1933 A Century of Progress Exposition.

This vividly illustrated guidebook to the great exposition introduced Depression-era Chicago to the wonders of the international community, an event commemorated permanently by one of the four stars emblazoned on the city flag. The illustrations artfully echo the Art Deco style of the Exposition’s architecture.

While the Foreword and Introduction are essentially the same, this version of the Official View Book is somewhat expanded, with more and different illustrations.

The Foreword is written by Commission President Rufus C. Dawes, son of Civil War general Rufus R. Dawes, and brother of Vice President Charles Gates Dawes.

Lightly toned; small scratch on from wrapper; minor edge wear; else very good.

Albert, Allen D. Official View Book. Century of Progress Exposition. (Expanded Edition). Chicago: The Reuben H. Donnelley Corp., 1933. 1st edition, no pagination, illustrated.
