Description

Allen Albert, Honorary Secretary The Architectural Commission, wrote this illustrated Official View Book of Chicago’s 1933 A Century of Progress Exposition.

This vividly illustrated guidebook to the great exposition introduced Depression-era Chicago to the wonders of the international community, an event commemorated permanently by one of the four stars emblazoned on the city flag.

The illustrations artfully echo the Art Deco style of the Exposition’s architecture. The Foreword is written by Commission President Rufus C. Dawes, son of Civil War general Rufus R. Dawes, and brother of Vice President Charles Gates Dawes.
