Capt. D. H. Maury, Skirmish Drill for Mounted Troops, Confederate pamphlet
An Exceedingly Rare Training Manual for the Confederate Cavalry
D.H. Maury’s Skirmish Drill for Mounted Troops taught Confederate soldiers the ways and means of cavalry drills and tactics.
Dabney Herndon Maury was commissioned a general in the Confederate army in 1862. The career regular army officer authored this manual on dismounted cavalry tactics in 1858, while serving as the U.S. Army’s Superintendent of Cavalry School at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Thousands of Confederate troops learned their cavalry drill from pamphlets such as this one, republished by the Confederacy in 1861.
Ex-library; library stamps marked out in black ink; repaired with cloth tape at front spine, covering part of the “M” in Mounted. Else very good.
