Civil War Medicine, Jack D. Welsh, M.D., Medical Histories of Confederate Generals & Medical Histories of Union Generals
Jack D. Welsh’s Medical Histories of Generals… from both sides of the war. Welsh, late professor emeritus of medicine at the U. of Oklahoma, had examined the medical histories and events that occurred not only during the war but throughout the lives, of 425 Confederate generals and 583 Union generals. From official records, personal letters, diaries, applications for retirement, pension records, and postwar memoirs, Welsh provided new data and clarification on the medical histories of this generation of Civil War military leaders. The set also includes a glossary of medical terms as well as a sequence of medical events during the war listing wounds, accidents, and deaths, remaining the fundamental work on the subject.
