James Longstreet’s From Manassas to Appomattox remains one of the greatest memoirs of a prominent Confederate. “Old Pete’s” memoirs are a vital source for the study of the Army of Northern Virginia, and a truly important work in Confederacy literature.
Talented and controversial, Longstreet led the hardest hitting corps in Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, yet is still the focus of blame and second-guessing, whether that be for his reluctant performance at the Battle of Gettysburg, or his post-war career in Republican politics as a political ally of U. S. Grant.
This 1st edition is uncommonly clean. Bright red boards with illustrated device on the front board. Bright copies of this book are scarce as the red cloth fades (suns) easily.
Hinges archivally strengthened. Edges lightly soiled text; a few margin notes in ink; one page acid-burnt by enclosed newsprint ephemera. Else very good. Original owner’s inscription “Dr. Jno. A. Miller / Roscoe, N.Y. / October, 1906.”
