Description

James Madison writes and signs a check,  paying $15 “to Jms. Peltz or bearer” at the Bank of Columbia.

Later that month, Madison would appoint Henry Clay as a commissioner to negotiate with Britain to end the war of 1812

Cancelation holes do not touch an excellent signature, a few do pass through a portion of his writing.  Handsomely framed with a gold fillet; floated and double-matted in red, white, and blue with an excellent early engraving.

Madison, James. Partly Printed Check, accomplished and signed “James Madison” as President.  Washington:  15 February 1814.  Oblong, 12mo.; 1p.
