James Monroe, Message From The President Of The United States…Treaty of Ghent pamphlet
Monroe, James. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, TRANSMITTING, …, THE CORRESPONDENCE WHICH LED TO THE TREATY OF GHENT. Washington: 1822. 53p., self wrappers. Printed by Gales and Seaton of New York.
This pamphlet was likely produced to influence the presidential election of 1824 in anticipation of a John Quincy Adams candidacy. Adams came under fire from War Hawks like Henry Clay for allegedly caving in on too many British demands, and this reprint seems to have been intended to remind voters of that controversy.
Unbound; light toning and very fight foxing with traces of mildew; else very good.
