The “Lion of Roundtop” Writes About his Wife

Joshua Chamberlain writes and signs a letter on U.S. Customs Service letterhead.

Concerns the official records of a meeting in which his daughter, Abbie, was involved; adding, “I am trying to catch a day off now & then…My wife is in such a serious condition that I have to be with her a good deal.”

Darkly penned; usual folds (one passing through ascenders of sig.); light wear; small soil spot; else very good. Full Chamberlain letters are uncommon.
