Gordon Rhea, The Battle of the Wilderness, 1st ed., Signed
Rhea’s Battle of the Wilderness!
Volume 1 in his Overland Campaign Series
Gordon Rhea’s The Battle of the Wilderness is the first volume in his series on Grant’s Overland Campaign.
Gordon Rhea began his magnificent series of military studies of Grant’s Overland Campaign in 1994 simply because he thought it needed to be done. Never before had these monumental operations been studied with the careful analysis and ready access to primary sources.
The Battle of the Wilderness introduced readers to U. S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, and to their armies with a careful “ground-up” reading of the sources that cleared away decades of legend, and immediately redefined the leaders.
The recent publication of On to Richmond (also available) brings collectors to the penultimate work in the series.
Collecting a set of signed first editions of Rhea’s life work will prove a worthy endeavor in the future, and quite difficult as first printings become scarce!
