This Secession Cockade, also called a Rosette, is from North Carolina.

Rendered what appears to be pleated chiffon, it is  red, white and blue. It features a five-pointed star, rendered in golden sequins, then trimmed with noodle tube beads.

Both Union and Confederate citizens wore patriotic badges on their clothing during the months leading to Civil War. There are many varieties and treatments; ranging from simple to elaborate.

Cockades have been a part of American History since the beginning. They have served as decorations on hats, badges designating rank, and commemoration of events.

Very Good; minor soiling.
