The print of Ulysses S. Grant, by Charles C. Buttre, was taken from a photograph by Burr and Young. It is one of the finest engravings produced for Grant.
John Chester Buttre (1821-1893) was a master at his craft and, along with William Sartain, perhaps the best steel-plate engravers of the Civil War era.
Clean; extremely sharp in detail.
