Description
William H. Taft signs a copy of Hampton-Tuskegee Results: A Story Every American Should Know.
The wrapper bears the facsimile of a note Taft had written on Supreme Court letterhead stating, “The story of Hampton Tuskegee results is a story every American should know / Wm. H. Taft.” Taft boldly signs in ink just below his printed signature. He is listed as President of the Trustees of Hampton.
Accompanied by a laid-in 4-page facsimile of a typed letter on White House letterhead signed (in print) by Calvin Coolidge; the rest of the pages describe just what H-T was – “two great industrial schools for Negroes” (originally founded in 1881 by Booker T. Washington).
The whole bound in full morocco with handsome tooling on both boards, gilt title, faux raised bands, marbled endsheets. Excellent and quite unusual.
Taft, William H. HAMPTON-TUSKEGEE RESULTS: A STORY EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD KNOW. NY: Hampton-Tuskegee Joint Committee, (c1924). Signed by Taft on printed front wrapper. (20p.); heavily illustrated; 7-1/2” x 11-1/2”.
