Description

R. L. Dabney, a theologian and volunteer aide, wrote the first full biography of the legendary Confederate general with Life of Lieut.-Gen. Thomas J. Jackson (Stonewall Jackson) from 1864-66.

The modern Jackson biographer, James I. Robertson, considered Dabney a hagiographic biographer, but the recognized that the work is full of important primary source materials. Dabney knew and loved his commander and this earliest of the major Jackson biographies is still a most valuable work.

This 1864 London edition is most scarce and is rarely encountered with both volumes present. An original albumen photo is mounted-in as the frontispiece of Volume I.

Both volumes shaken with Volume I cracking at the front hinge. Light foxing; discoloration at edges. Ex-library from the Sondley Reference Library in Asheville, North Carolina with blind stamp on title page and bookplate on end pages. Else very good condition.

A truly scarce set of Stonewall Jackson volumes!
