Description
Jonathan Wainwright wrote General Wainwright’s Story – his memoir of his battle and imprisonment in the Philippines – soon after his release from Japanese captivity.
Wainwright was the senior commander in the Philippines after General Douglas MacArthur was ordered to Australia and surrendered his force after an epic defense. Beyond his story Wainwright and his publishers focused on the unpreparedness of the U.S. for a war in 1941, and how he and other prisoners paid the price.
Usual toning and light foxing; light shelf-wear and significant chipping of dust jacket with loss (see photo in click through); else very good. Signed “J. M. Wainwright / General U.S.A.” Wainwright,
General Jonathan M. General Wainwright’s Story: The Account of Four Years, Surrender, and Captivity… Edited by Robert Considine. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1946. 1st edition, 314p., index, d.j.
