These three volumes represent the fruits of Thayer’s resolute search for primary source accounts of the 1832 Black Hawk War, Abraham Lincoln’s only military service. Colorful, carefully compiled, and with illustrations and maps on the end pages. The volumes were self-published in small numbers and are uncommon. Full sets are scarce. An excellent example of a work of comprehensive local history.
In this set Hunting a Shadow is in 2nd printing. The other volumes are 1st editions.
