Description

A classic Grant pose, seated with his shoulder straps highly visible. It was taken by Jeremiah Gurney in N.Y. in March 1865 (penciled at bottom), this clear image shows some very faint retouching to Grant’s hairline. 

Print has scattered light spotting, not maring image; closed tear at extreme lower right blank corner (no losses).  The mount is irreg. trimmed, with edgewear and chips at margins and corners, and overall toning on blank verso.  Small modern pencil identification of photographer and date in bottom margin of mount. 

Quite scarce in this imperial size.
