This Carte de visite of Union Major General James B. McPherson bears a backmark from Morse’s Gallery of the Cumberland, Nashville, TN.

McPherson served with Grant at Shiloh, and also fought at Fort Donelson and Vicksburg. He was KIA at the Battle of Atlanta. He was the second highest ranking Union officer KIA during the Civil War.
