Lincoln Cabin Bookends

Description

Offering a pair of bookends with a Lincoln Cabin theme. The cabin in rendered in a chocolate brown color, with the surrounding vegetation in a very subtle green enamel. The words “LINCOLN CABIN” are incised near the bottom.

They have the hallmark of Judd Manufacturing, a respected maker of decorative metal arts for the home and office. They are most known for their banks, doorstops, door-knockers, inkwells, animal sculptures and bookends. Lincoln was a popular subject-over the decades–Judson produced at least five Lincoln-themed sets of bookends. 

Judd Manufacturing got its start as a blacksmith foundry in New Britain, Connecticut during the Revolutionary War.  It later reinventing itself as a harness maker, selling sleigh bells, saddles and other equestrian gear. At the turn of the 2oth Century, Judd pivoted to decorative objects. The growing middle class desired fine decorative objects and Judd was happy to oblige. The company stayed in business until 1954, when it was sold to Stanley Works. Stanley Works was primarily a tool manufacturer and eventually became part of Black and Decker.

In excellent condition; with only minor pitting, they could use some new felt on the bottoms.
