The First Great Battle!
Description
Russel H. “Cap” Beatie wrote Road to Manassas when he was a 22-year-old lieutenant of artillery serving in Korea, and a recent graduate of Princeton University. It was the beginning of a fine career in Civil War history and publishing that focused on the military history of the Civil War in the east.
Road to Manassas makes an analytical examination of the evolution of Union command from the beginning of the war to the debacle at First Bull Run. This military history of the first crucial campaign of the war examines problems in Union recruiting and leadership development, walks thoroughly through the action of the battle, and relates the result to the potentialities and actions of Union leaders.
Cap Beatie later partnered with Theodore Savas to create the Savas Beatie Publishing Company, a leader in publishing fine Civil War and military history.
Clipped dust jacket; light wear at extremities; else very good.
