The Committee on the Conduct of the War produced this investigative report on the massacre at Fort Pillow, Tennessee, just over a month after the atrocity committed on Union troops.

The report contains extensive interviews with dozens of witnesses taken within weeks of the massacre. It is part of the immense volume of sworn testimony collected by Congress during the war. This volume also includes a short (34 page) report on the physical condition of Union soldiers returned from Confederate captivity, with illustrations.
