Daniel Cooledge Fletcher’s Reminiscences of California and the Civil War combine the author’s life experiences in two of the most important historical episodes of the 19th Century.

Fletcher provides short but vivid stories about mining in California before his enlistment in the Union army. He served in the 40th New York “Mozart” Regiment. In this distinguished outfit Fletcher participated in the Peninsula Campaign and provides accounts of combat at Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, and Malvern Hill.
