Description
Military Commissions signed by Abraham Lincoln are some of the most often-seen Lincoln documents.
James J. Newell was 45 years old, born in Massachusetts and lived in Michigan. Captain and AQM, commissioned 5 August 1861, resigning on 1 November 1862. (Heitman, V. I, p. 745.).
The commission came down through the Newell family.
A large, clean, old Lincoln signature; very good; usual folds; lt. soiling at corners.
