Description

This Carte de visite of General Henry W. Slocum bears a backmark from Mathew Bardy’s studio.

Distinguished himself in battle, Slocum fought at First Bull Run, Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. His defence of Culp’s Hill at the Battle of Gettysburg was instrumental in the Union victory. After the war, he served in the House of Representatives, for the state of New York.

Overall foxing, else very good.
