Description

The 70th Indiana regiment, commanded by future president Colonel Benjamin Harrison, served in Kentucky and Tennessee before seeing their heaviest action during the Atlanta Campaign.

Author Samuel Merrill created a very small run of presentation copies of The Seventieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry in The War Of The Rebellion. These presentation copies feature a fronstpiece signed by directly President Harrison. Most were presented directly to valued comrades with inscription. In this exceptional case Private James Wills of Company G inscribes the book to Ethel Waters, his daughter, with a lengthy and touching sentiment.

Light wear, with light toning; light stain on top edge; else very good.

President Harrison’s signature is bold and attractive.
