Description
James McKee’s Back “In War Times” is a history that sheds light on the operations in South Carolina and along the Atlantic coast.
The 144th New York Volunteers was a Delaware County unit raised in 1862. Their service consisted of lesser-known though frequent battles along the Carolina coast, including Suffolk, Charleston, Fort Wagner, and Honey Hill.
McKee’s fulsome account tells much of the interactions between the regiment and freed people, and of service alongside soldiers of the United States Colored Troops. Includes many wartime portraits of members of the regiment.
Re-cased; lightly toned; spine lightly faded. Inscribed (but not signed) from author to his daughter in 1904.
