Description
Confederate General Robert Rodes signs a requisition receipt “of Col. W. R. Pickett, Quartermaster of the State of Alabama.” Accoutrements, cartridge boxes, belts, muskets, etc. are included. At the time Rodes was a Captain in Tuscaloosa’s Warrior Guards and not yet the Colonel of the 5th Alabama Infantry. He fought at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania and was subsequently mortally wounded at the third Battle of Winchester on 19 September 1864.
Having died at age 35, his signature is quite scarce – and certainly quite desirable!
