Description
Winfield Scott sends a brief note concerning the publication of, apparently, the second volume of his 3-volume set on U. S. Infantry Tactics, which were published in 1835.
In full: “I shall be glad to have the remaining proofs of this (the second) volume as soon as may be, in order that the whole may be put to the press. I have marked some, but not all of the broken letters. I hope to receive back, as early as may be, the stereotype proofs I have corrected.”
Scott was a veteran of the War of 1812, American Indian Wars, Mexican War, and the early stages of the Civil War. He ran as a Whig for president in 1852 but lost to Franklin Pierce. Known as “Old Fuss and Feathers” for his insistence for proper military etiquette.
Very good with legible ink writing; a few staining spots partially obscures just a few letters; adhered to a backing sheet only at the top left corner.
Scott, Winfield. Autograph Note, signed in full. No place: 15 June 1835. 1p.; 7” x 2” irregularly cut to save on paper; unusually he has drawn a line to follow when cutting the paper. $450.00
