Description
With this check, Andrew Jackson withdraws $20.00.
It’s interesting to note that Jackson believed the Bank of the U.S. was unconstitutional and corrupt, wishing to remove government funds and place them in select state banks instead. As well, this is the exact day that South Carolina passed the first Nullification Act, which Jackson later denounced as president. This check was signed the year Jackson was nominated for the presidency. He was the first to be selected by state legislatures instead of congressional caucuses.
Excellent condition with a large, strong signature; one vertical fold; paper remnants on verso from prior adhering to a scrap book do not affect the check’s appearance at all.
Andrew Jackson. Autograph Partly Printed Check, accomplished and signed in full. Nashville: 28 May 1828. Jackson pays “Self” $20, withdrawing it from “the Bank of the United States at Nashville.”
