(Lincoln Funeral – Springfield, IL) Grouping of Relics from Oak Ridge Funeral

Description

This grouping from Lincoln’s final homecoming to Springfield engenders the emotions of Lincoln’s friends and associates for their hometown hero. 

Framed in a dark, ebony toned elaborate frame, the grouping includes trim from Lincoln’s casket, crepe from an armband worn at the funeral, and a piece of cedar from Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. This is all attested to on the back of the piece.

The card on the back reads:

“Cedar from Lincoln’s grave/ Crepe trimmed in white from coffin of Lincoln / Crepe tied on Elion (?) Richards arm in parade at Springfield when Lincoln was buried.”
