The French nobleman, Louis Philipe Albert d’Orleans, Comte de Paris produced one of the first comprehensive and reliable histories of the Civil War with the multi-volume History of the Civil War in America.
Comte de Paris served in the war as a member of George McClellan’s staff, and his history, while based on primary sources, also benefits from personal observation. A foundational work on the Civil War and the foundation upon which much later military history is based.
