Heroes of the Mozart Regiment!

Description

History of the Fortieth (Mozart) Regiment New York Volunteers…, is Sergeant Fred Floyd’s comprehensive history of one of New York City’s most celebrated regiments.

The regiment was recruited for New York, but as the book’s title suggests filled also by companies from Massachusetts and Pennsylvania that could not gain places in regiments organized in their home states. Floyd’s work is a valuable history of an important III Corps regiment, trained at Mozart Hall in New York City.

The Mozarts fought valiantly at Fredericksburg, Wilderness, and in the “Valley of Death” at Gettysburg. Over time they were consolidated with soldiers from other regiments that had mustered out. As a result, this book’s comprehensive roster lists the names of almost 3,000 men.

Finally, Floyd provides much information on post war efforts to preserve historical memory. The Mozart regiment is memorialized in many places from New York City to Newburyport, Mass. Their monument at Gettysburg plays a role in 21st Century controversy because of its location near a beaver pond at Gettysburg National Military Park.

Very good condition; unusually bright.
