Description

L. A. Simmons’  The History of the 84th Regt. Ill Vols., tells the story of a regiment of Illinois volunteers from Lincoln’s Central Illinois circuit.

The regiment was recruited in the summer of 1862 from the region around Macomb, Illinois by Colonel Louis H. Waters, and fought through the war with the Union Army of the Cumberland. While they fought valiantly on many fields – including Chickamauga and Chattanooga – the regiment established an early reputation for bravery for their valorous stand along the Nashville Pike at the Battle of Stones River, Tennessee. Simmons provides a detailed first-hand account of that struggle.

This Illinois regimental history is exceedingly scarce in its original edition.

Light foxing; hinges archivally repaired; light chipping of the extremities with loss at the head band and bottom of spine; minor damp stain; else very good.
