Description
Wiley Sword published Shiloh: Bloody April for the first time in 1974. At the time it was the only modern military history of the great battle in west Tennessee. It includes a forward by legendary World War II combat historian General S. L. A. Marshall.
When Sword published Shiloh: Bloody April no book had addressed the enormous and enormously controversial battle fully since the passing of the veterans. Sword looked at the issues involving Confederate command, Union surprise and Lew Wallace’s march to the battlefield. His account of the leadership and death of Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston is reliable and deeply researched.
Even though several books have been written about Shiloh since 1974 Sword remains an essential title for the student of the battle. All later books are compared to it.
