Description
James Madison signs a desirable military land grant.
“In consideration of Military Service, performed by Mathias Phillips, a private three years, to the United States, in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment… There is granted, by the United States, unto…Mathias Philips a certain Tract of Land containing one hundred acres.” A partial paper seal remains affixed at the lower left.
Madison is hailed as the “Father of the Constitution” for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.
In very good to fine condition, with light toning and staining, with small areas of vellum loss; deep folds as usual.
