Description

We cannot imagine a 1860 Campaign Cover with more Lincoln iconography!

The cover features three images: bust view of Lincoln from the Cooper Union pose; a shield with the candidate’s names, surrounded by flags and an eagle; and a young Lincoln splitting rails for fences in front of his log cabin – an alleged Lincoln quote beneath. It is postally-used, bearing a CDS that appears to be from New York.

Printing is dark and clear; light wear and foxing to the edges with a couple of very small tears (no loss of text).

(1860 Campaign). Presidential Campaign Envelope of 1860.   “LINCOLN / HAMLIN”  NY: S. Raynor (imprint), (1860).  5-1/2” x 3”.  [Milgram AL-92]  Addressed to L. U. Reovis, in Beardstown, Illinois (where Lincoln had been elected captain in the Black Hawk War) with two cancelled stamps.
