Description

Albert Beveridge’s classic work on Supreme Court Justice John Marshall. Marshall, after serving in Congress, and as Secretary of State under John Adams for just a year, was appointed Chief Justice in 1801. Marshall had almost no formal schooling and had studied law for a mere six weeks.

Nevertheless, Marshall remains the only judge in American history whose distinction derives almost entirely from his judicial career.volumes in 2 volumes; handsomely bound in Full Morroco with raised bands, gilt spine and top edges, gilt eagle decorations on spine, decorative end sheets. Howes-409 (distinguished enough to be in Howes’ USiana, yet quite readable as well).

A classic work by a classic historian on the principal founder of judicial review and of the American system of constitutional law. Copy of William Joseph Granfield (1889-1959) as “M.C.” from Massachusetts –name in gilt on front boards.

Excellent; bright.
