Benjamin Franklin signs, as President of the Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and as Witness to this deed, as he grants “John Creaton private” in the late army of The United States a parcel of land in the county of “Westmorland in the Seventh district of the Donation Lands….”
Unusually, just below the signature, is drawn a survey of the land, “Surveyed by William Power, Deputy Surveyor on the 5th of July 1785.”
Very good, large ink signature; usual folds; seal lost though red dye remains (as does the roughing of the vellum below); off-setting of the seal and a water mark; but it shows its age well and makes a fine example for the collector.
Franklin, Benjamin. Partly Printed Document, signed “B. Franklin / Presidt.” Philadelphia: 8 February 1787. Oblong folio; one (1) page. Countersigned by James Trimble for J. Armstrong, Jr. Secretary.
