An Important, But Unknown Campaign

Description
Tullahoma by David Powell and the late Eric Wittenberg fills a long-neglected hole in Civil War scholarship.
In June of 1863 Union General William S. Rosecrans began a classic campaign of maneuver against Confederates under Braxton Bragg. Confronted by rugged terrain and a heavily entrenched foe, Rosecrans utilized strategic maneuver to defeat his enemy rather than direct assaults. The complex and fascinating campaign included deceit, hard marching, fighting, and incredible luck – both good and bad. Battles at Guys Gap and Liberty Gap are covered, as is the magnificent feat of arms at Hoover’s Gap by the Union mounted infantry of John Wilder’s “Lightning Brigade,” with their repeating rifles. This “bloodless” campaign has been too-long neglected by historians. Powell and Wittenberg changed that with this outstanding study.
As new condition in dust jacket. Signed directly by co-author David A. Powell.
